When a Fernlenker vehicle is driving, a trained driver sits behind the steering wheel and pedals — but not in the vehicle. Instead, in a control room, with a live video feed and a direct link to the car. Like a regular driver, only from a distance.
This is not a self-driving car that calls for help in emergencies. It is a human who steers the vehicle the entire time — from start to finish of the journey.
Hence the name: Fernlenker — German for ‘remote driver’. A human steers — from a distance.
Together with mobility provider mobileeee, we are bringing Fernlenker into pilot operation. mobileeee runs station-based carsharing — in the future, customers won't need to pick up their vehicle at a station: a remote driver delivers the booked car from the control room to the customer, and returns it to the station after the trip.
The approval process is currently underway. This page is online so anyone curious about what we're planning can get an early look. If this concerns you — as press, as an interested partner, as a regulator — get in touch. We'll respond.
Briefly tell us what role you're writing in — it helps us route your message to the right person.
We only reach out when Fernlenker has news worth sharing — pilot launch, new partners, approval milestones.
